A new tax update makes your annual gift more impactful than ever
January 16, 2026

A recent update to the tax code means your cash gift to Notre Dame carries an even bigger impact this year.
If you take the standard deduction, this update could allow you to fully deduct your cash gifts to Notre Dame for the first time. In short, generosity that once offered little or no tax benefit may now qualify for one.
What this means for you
Under the new law, you may deduct cash donations of up to $1,000 if you file as a single taxpayer or $2,000 if you file jointly, even when taking the standard deduction.
Because many supporters give within this range, this tax code update may allow you to receive a tax benefit for your entire cash gift. Best of all, it applies to the ways you already choose to make cash donations—through annual or monthly gifts, or one-time gifts made when the moment feels right.
