Fr. Monk Malloy Reflects on His Notre Dame Journey
December 11, 2025
Scott Berry
For Rev. Edward “Monk” Malloy, C.S.C., president emeritus of Notre Dame and longtime priest-in-residence at Sorin Hall, leadership at Our Lady’s University begins with faith, humility, and service—virtues instilled by his parents and deepened through the mentorship of his dear friend, Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C.
In this episode of For Good, Father Malloy reflects with gratitude and wonder on an extraordinary life of service, sharing his memories of guiding the University through triumphs and tragedies, partnering with the City of South Bend to help renew the local community, and teaching generations of Notre Dame students to be intentional and present with themselves and one another.
New episodes of For Good: Stories from Notre Dame drop on select weekdays at giving.nd.edu/stories and the ND Loyal YouTube channel. You can also listen to the podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
A sincere thank you to the Notre Dame family for making stories like these possible! It’s because of you that Notre Dame is such a powerful force for good in the world.
