Give to Notre Dame Track and Field

Begin Here

The crack of the starting gun was first heard in varsity track competition on the grounds of Notre Dame in 1890. In the 127 years since, student-athletes in the shadow of the Golden Dome have sprinted, leapt, thrown, and endured their way to a national championship in 1957, 18 individual national titles, 22 Academic All-America recognitions, and 286 All-America honors.

In the last five years alone, Notre Dame has experienced great success—an individual NCAA Championship for Molly Seidel in the 10,000 meters at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where the women’s team earned a program-best 13th place finish, a Distance Medley Relay National Championship for Notre Dame’s men’s relay squad in 2012, and six BIG EAST Conference Team Championships along with 60 individual conference championships between the men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor squads.

Four-time All-American Anna Rohrer recorded the fastest time in the world in 2017 with a time of 31:58.99 in the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational. The mark set the ACC and Notre Dame records and currently ranks No. 1 in the country in the event. Rohrer, the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country champion and 2017 ACC Indoor 5,000m champion, won her third and fourth ACC titles in the outdoor 10,000m and 5,000m in 2017.

The success of the Fighting Irish Track and Field team carries on after student-athletes earn their Notre Dame degrees. In 2010, Track and Field alumna Molly Huddle ’09 ran 5,000 meters faster than any American woman in history, and that accomplishment still sits unbroken in the record books. In 2014, Mary Saxer ’09 won the USA Indoor Track and Field Championship and was ranked the 6th best pole-vaulter in the world. Former Notre Dame standout Jade Barber ‘15 made two appearences at the World University Games, while Chris Geisting ’15 and Patrick Feeney ’14 earned bids to compete for spots on the Team USA’s 2015 IAAF World Championships team.
