In the annals of American sports, few names conjure up as much recognition and passion as that of Notre Dame Football.

One of the winningest teams in college football history features 11 consensus national championships, a record seven Heisman Trophy winners, and 97 consensus All-Americans. More Notre Dame student-athletes have been drafted into the National Football League and enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame than nearly any other school in America.

The great players to wear the Blue and Gold include Heisman Trophy winners Bertelli, Lujack, Hart, Lattner, Hornung, Huarte, and Brown; College Football Hall of Famers like Browner, Casper, Gatewood, Lynch, and Theisman; All-Americans like Crable, Eddy, Hanratty, Niehaus, Patulski, Samardzija, Snow, and Zorich; and NFL All-Time greats Montana, Bettis, Buoniconti, Page, and Macafee.

In over 100 years of competition, the Fighting Irish have had 107 winning seasons, including 12 unbeaten, untied seasons, 10 others in which they were unbeaten but suffered one or more ties—and 29 seasons in which only a single loss spoiled an unbeaten record.

Five bronze sculptures stand as sentinels around the perimeter of the historic Notre Dame Stadium, honoring the accomplishments of Notre Dame’s greatest head football coaches over the years. Knute Rockne. Frank Leahy. Ara Parseghian. Dan Devine. Lou Holtz. Each of these legendary head coaches led the Fighting Irish to one or more national championships. Two of them, Rockne and Leahy, rank No. 1 and No. 2 respectively as the coaches with the highest winning percentages in the history of college football.

Since 1962, Notre Dame has graduated 98.74% of its football players in four years, demonstrating the University's commitment to academic excellence as well as athletic achievement.
