There is no greater spectacle in all of collegiate lacrosse than the glistening gold helmets of the Fighting Irish, marching two by two onto the field of battle, led by the cry of bagpipes. It’s a tradition dating back to 1986, and its rise to prominence among Notre Dame athletics customs is perhaps only matched by the lacrosse program itself and its ascension onto the national scene.
Now, after 35 seasons, the Fighting Irish boast one of the country’s top programs. With four Final Four appearances in the past seven years and 11-straight NCAA Tournament bids, the Irish have arrived on the national stage and stand proudly amongst the sport’s elite programs.
Along with tremendous on-field success, Notre Dame Men's Lacrosse provides its student-athletes with unparalleled experiences off the field. The program is founded on three pillars—character, culture, and community—and Irish players and coaches are consistently focused on a world beyond lacrosse.
In Kevin Corrigan’s 28 years as head coach of Notre Dame Men's Lacrosse, he has built the FIghting Irish into one of the nation’s premier programs. In the past ten years, he has led his team to a combined 120-39 record, six regular season conference championships, three conference playoffs championships, 11-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, seven-straight quarterfinals, four Final Fours, and two national title games. His longevity is matched by only one other current Division I men’s lacrosse head coach.
On the field, Corrigan’s teams have been consistently impressive, but on the commencement stage they have been perfect. All Irish jerseys eventually become caps and gowns, and the program’s current graduation rate of 100 percent is highest in the country.
Join the Rockne Heritage Fund
The Rockne Heritage Fund was created in 2002 to galvanize alumni, parents, and friends of Notre Dame to fund expendable grants-in-aid for student-athletes. Members help ensure that the University continues to offer its student-athletes, regardless of their financial resources, a transforming educational experience, one that combines intellectual rigor, athletic excellence, and an emphasis on spirituality and moral values.
