The Hesburgh Women of Impact initiative, named in honor of Fr. Ted’s transformational legacy, was created to emphasize all the good that women have done and can continue to do for Notre Dame.

Since the earliest days of the University, when the Sisters of the Holy Cross joined the then-fledgling institution, women have been instrumental in distinguishing Notre Dame as a model of higher learning characterized by both intellectual vigor and a strong moral compass. When Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., decided that women should be admitted beginning in 1972, the fabric of Our Lady’s University was forever changed.

The Hesburgh Women of Impact initiative has three primary objectives:

  • To recognize and celebrate female leaders of Notre Dame
  • To empower, nurture, and develop future female leaders within the University
  • To invite philanthropic support of the mission of Our Lady’s University in a personal, inspiring, and impactful manner

We believe the University of Notre Dame is uniquely positioned to empower future female leaders through a distinct education of the mind, body, and spirit. To continue advancing women’s education at Notre Dame, we ask you to consider making a gift to the Hesburgh Women of Impact Scholarship fund, which helps provide financial aid for young women attending the University. There are also opportunities to establish named Hesburgh Women of Impact scholarships. For more information about establishing a named scholarship, please contact Sara Liebscher or Kari Tarman.
