A pair of Notre Dame baseball players were selected in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, marking the third consecutive year the Irish have had a pair of players selected in the MLB Draft.
Jack Radel
Prospect Promotion Incentive – Pick 28 – Houston Astros
Jack Radel became the program’s highest overall pick since Eric Jagielo was picked 29th in the 2013 MLB Draft, and he was the highest Irish pitcher selected since Aaron Heilman was selected 18th in the 2001 draft.
Radel finished the 2026 season in the top 50 among NCAA Division I pitchers in complete games (15th), WHIP (17th), strikeouts (19th), strikeout-to-walk ratio (25th), strikeouts per nine innings (41st), and victories (48th).
He was a Third Team All-America selection by Perfect Game and D1Baseball for his performance in the 2026 season. An ABCA First Team All-Region honoree, he garnered All-ACC First Team honors and was twice named as the ACC Pitcher of the Week during his junior campaign with the Irish.
Radel posted single-season career-highs for innings pitched (87.2), appearances and starts (15), ERA (3.29), complete games (2), strikeouts (116) and wins (8) in his junior season.
Mark Quatrani
Round 18 – Pick 545 – San Diego Padres
Mark Quatrani was selected in the 18th round by the San Diego Padres. Quatrani had a big year with the Irish in 2026. He posted 15 home runs, 66 RBI, 53 runs, 80 hits, and a 1.100 OPS. Defensively, he caught 15 runners attempting to steal during the season.
He finished the year ranked among the nation’s leaders in Division I baseball in RBI per game (26th), hits per game (34th), RBI (37th), and batting average (49th).
A Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Year Semifinalist, Quatrani was a Second Team All-ACC selection in 2026. He also garnered ACC Player of the Week and Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Week honors during the season.
Jack Radel and Mark Quatrani’s selections in the 2026 MLB Draft are the latest reminder of what is possible when Notre Dame student-athletes are challenged, supported, and formed to excel. Through the Rockne Athletics Fund, donors help provide the resources that turn potential into achievement and prepare Fighting Irish student-athletes to reach the highest levels of the game.
